Default norton anti virus

so yeah i play alot of games online and norton anti virus is always denying my game permission to connect and sends me random pop ups with stupid questins in the middle of strategic online game moments. so i was like sick of the program and never have had any virus problems so i decided to uninstal it. the thing is as soon as i tried to uninstall it started acting like a virus, it wont let me uninstall. also every half an hour since i tried to it says something like virus called "trojans rule2" was dicovered in your computer and i was NOOOOO reinstalled it scanned for viruses but it found nothing. so it like impossible to uninstall because there is "somebody" trying to hack in to your computer or whatever virus is free. even if you still try to uninstall it doesnt let you. has this happened to anyone else?

Depending on the version of nortron you have, there might be problems removing some registry keys. Nortron is supposed to have an online uninstallation tool for those cases on their website.

And, yeah if you plan on getting another anti-virus, avg isnt bad , there's also avast that is free.

I had norton for a long time to, and it never seemed to agree with anything I did on my comp, especially GW, so I got rid of it.

I recommend Webroot, best anti-spyware/virus protection I've had.

AVG Free and spybotS&D+ad-aware is a good combo to use.
For a firewall there's plenty of free ones, such as Comodo.

Norton, when uninstalled, leaves a heap of shit behind.

Norton sucks bigtime, i used it for years. Its expensive( if you buy),it hogs memory, and detects nothing. Had my pc twice infected while using norton.

Now i use AVG, and hitman pro as backup http://www.hitmanpro.nl/hitmanpro/

Avg - http://free.grisoft.com/
and Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Are good free alternatives.

For paid AV, I really like NOD32 by Eset - http://www.eset.com/
Constant micro updates (that don't interrupt you), great detection, and very efficient / low resource usage while running.

Surfing the internet - playing online games - BEING ON THE INTERNET AT ALL

You NEED Anti-virus protection. Disabling this won't help, it won't offer any form of security. Otherwise your computer will be like my other rig, a really heavy and not so pretty paperweight.

You need administrator access to remove Norton - prior to doing this download from avg free (there are links above) and make sure it is there, do not install it.

Disable your internet, uninstall Norton - go to their website and they will have an uninstalling tool that will allow you to remove the resource hog (norton) from your rig, then after that is all said and done, you'll have to reboot - you'll need to install AVG while still offline.

You need antivirus protection - just because you haven't had any virii problems in the past, doesn't mean you need to be any less safe.

Just like the old saying goes.

No glove no love - this pertains to the internet too.

not to be an an ass to norton anti virus, i seriously doubt they would detect a real virus in my computer. the way i see it the anti virus is acting like a virus so im better off withought any security leist while i play.

Or removing it completely and getting something else.

Because you are not only just dealing with your computer that could become infected but anyone else's if you have any sort of other program going on (IM Messengers to be a big key)

Removing it isn't that hard, and it's better to be safer than sorry.

Norton is just a damn resource hog. Most computer geeks and gamers will use one of the following AV programs:

CA
AVG
Kaspersky

QFT and then some.

CA is absolutely unbelievable and I love it, but... Seeing as I tend to reformat my computer quite a bit, I stick with AVG

Ditch Norton and get Avast.

After I removed Norton I never looked back. And Avast catches everything that I throw at it.

avast is exceptional. much better than norton antivirus.

i think the best way to completely remove it is to go into safe mode and uninstall it from there. i had a problem with zonealarm not allowing me to remove it, so i used safe mode. internet is much faster now without essentially two firewalls going at it at the same time (windows firewall looks pretty good).

I use Webroot + NOD32.

NOD32 is conceivably the most unfriendly program I have ever come across
( I am computer illiterate) but it assuredly gets the job done well.

And Webroot...well...is awesome.

Yup, disconnect your PC from the internet by literally pulling the plug. That always seems to help it stop being a pain in the arse about uninstalling, but also it leaves junk behind like Norton Updater. You can/need to remove that too via the Remove Programs in Control Panel. Someone provided a link above this post about removing ALL of Norton.

This assumes you have admin rights to install/uninstall.

Comcast provided the "other" anti-virus free (McAfee), and I've never had an ounce of trouble with it once I told it to stop announcing every blasted update (which interrupted my game by minimizing it to show me a stupid pop-up; during a vital battle I might add).

I couldn't agree with you more as i had it and wouldn't let me uninstall it so I had to have one of those Geek Service guys what to do.They suggested a program to download and uninstall it although a faint ghost is still left behind.I now have AVG and like it better as well I do trend micro online house call scans of my system in safemode.
